It’s Taco Tuesday and there’s a new taco wagon in town Flair Tacos, in Fremont right across from the 7-11. This is my second trip to Flair Taco in a week and I find my self conflicted. The tacos are tasty with solid Al Pastor and tasty Salsa Verde. If I have a complaint its that the tacos are a little sparse in the filling department. I have trouble complaining about a $1.50 taco but a little more Al Pastor would have been nice.

With the Torta I’m a little less ambivalent and not in a good way. The Carne Asada was good but the other elements were a little lacking. I like guacamole but not on a torta I prefer a little sliced avacado. The guac tends to get the bread a little soggy and the result is although tasty, a little texturally challenged.

It’s Friday and time for another burger adventure here at Seattle Lunch Blog. This Friday we decided to check out Norm’s in Fremont. It had been two years since I last visited Norms in retrospect far too long. Norms is a great little bar with an extensive menu and a good selection of burgers. I went for their three pepper burger with Pepper Jack, a roasted red pepper and a spicy mayo to top it off. At Norms they cook your burger to order. I went with medium rare and was rewarded with a juicy and delicious burger. All their burgers come on a fresh baked bun and with a solid set of fries. Although not my favorite burger definitely a place to visit.

What: Their Hommage to the Dicks Deluxe, Tater Tots and a Dr. Pepper

How Much: $15.50

Details:

In honor of Burger Friday we decided to pack everybody up head into Ballard and visit one of my favorite purveyors of burgers the Lunch Box Laboratory. If you never been to the Lab its is an experience an impossibly small storefront with some of the best burgers money can buy. As you walk in you are greeted by a chalk board with 8-10 of their “Daily Experiments” with different combinations of Meat, Cheese, Sauce and add ons. If you feeling a little more participatory you can round the corner and are greeted by three chalk boards and a host of ingredients. With 7 different meats, 15 cheeses, and a host of sauces and add ons there are literally thousands of burger combinations to choose from.

Today I opted for one of their specials the Homage to the Dicks Deluxe. With a ground Sirloin Patty, American Cheese, fresh bacon, sauteed onions and a secret sauce this was a burger to die for( or from given its enormous size). The burger was cooked perfectly placed on a fresh bun with onions, tomatoes and lettuce. I went for the Tater Tots as my side they were great extra crispy and seasoned with their Sea Salt and Pepper. In the end I walked away extremely full and very satisfied.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Great spot for authentic Mexican food. I usually get one of the burritos. I had the chicken wet burrito today, and par for the course is was very good. Burrito topped with a nice tomato salsa. They also have an all you can eat salsa bar to make it even more tasty. I usually add at least a couple spoonfulls of the fresh salsa. The bar has several salsas as well as limes and pickled vegies. Burritos here are big, I hate reviews that talk about portion size, but size does matter sometimes. Well it does when the food is good anyway.

Details:

Known more for their amazing Happy Hour Peso’s Kitchen is one of my favorite Taco Tuesday lunch stops. With a comprehensive menu of both lunch and breakfast there are a dizzying array of options . I went for the Soup And Salad Combo with your choice of 3 different soups and 4 salads. I opted to start with their Chicken Lime and Avocado soup which was very good. With fresh lime and avocado the soup offers really solid contrasting flavors and a generous serving to enjoy. I then went for the Chop Chop Salad I’m not really sure what the difference is between a Chop and a Chop Chop Salad but it was good none the less. With large chunks of fresh cucumber, fresh chunks of bacon and Cojita Cheese this is a very substantial dish.

Details:

In Honor of National Talk Like a Pirate day we were off to Seattle’s best pirate themed restaurant The Jolly Roger. The Jolly Roger is one of my favorite lunch stops with delicious sliders and a rotating menu of hot sandwiches it offers a huge variety on a small menu. I started with part of a Schnitzel Sandwich off their rotating menu. It was fantastic a really tender piece of battered pork loin toped with smoked cheddar and deep friend fennel strings all served on top a very nice freshly baked roll. I then moved on to a couple of their sliders very solid with a generous toping of cheese and grilled onions. I opted out of the fries and went with the Caesar Salad which was well done with a little kick in the dressing.
